I was born in Indonesia, in the city of Merauke, West Papua (Irian Jaya). However, I grew up in the Netherlands from the age of 10. Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts Minerva, Groningen, Netherlands I have been active as a visual artist since 198
My work is known for its combination of Dutch and Indonesian influences. I often use materials such as rice, palm leaves and elements from traditional Indonesian art, which I integrate with modern techniques. My work has a symbolic, layered meaning, with rice for example symbolizing fertility and everyday life in many Asian cultures. In addition, I use the Poleng motif, a black and white pattern from Bali, to express balance and duality, which is a recurring theme in my work.
I strive to create art that is authentic and unique and breaks away from established categories or art movements. My works vary from paintings and sculptures to wall objects and installations, in which cultural and symbolic elements play an important role. These works often have a deep personal connection with my bi-cultural background and a search for universal themes such as identity and balance.
